NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AWARD

The National Professional Service Award is for full- or part-time Boys & Girls Club staff who have provided exceptionally devoted service to their organization and/or the Boys & Girls Club Movement.

The National Professional Service Award bears the inscription "For unusually devoted service to boys and girls." The award is presented as an antique silver medal on a light blue grosgrain neck ribbon with a personalized certificate. A lapel pin representing a replica of the medal is presented for daily wear.

The National Professional Service Award may be awarded by the National Awards Committee to any staff member within a Boys & Girls Club who has rendered unusually devoted service to the organization of to the Boys & Girls Club Movement over a considerable period of time.

To be eligible for the National Professional Service Award, an individual must have been an unusually interested and active member of the staff. The service must be greater than that rendered by other members of staff over a period of time. An individual may also be eligible for this award if he/she has been unusually active as a professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement.

An individual will be recognized with this award for providing exceptional leadership over an extended period of time to the board of directors, community and/or funding source(s) in the major expansion of services to youth, solving significant community problems, impacting the organization's finances, redirecting or developing an organization's image, and/or providing leadership to create diversity in Club membership, staff and board.

The National Professional Service Award may also be presented to an individual who demonstrates leadership and unusual effort in the development of programs and projects, membership on regional or national committees, contribution of expertise, and promoting the mission of the Boys & Girls Club Movement.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

Nominations for the National Professional Service Award may be made by any individual, Boys & Girls Club or Area Council. Nominations are not given consideration by the National Awards Committee unless full and complete information regarding the SPECIFIC service rendered by the candidate has been supplied. 

A member organization cannot have more than ONE nomination in any ONE year approved for the National Professional Service Award.

A Boys & Girls Club must have been a member organization of Boys & Girls Clubs of America for at least two, preferably three, years for any of its staff to be eligible for this award. A nominee must have served as a staff member in the Boys & Girls Club Movement for at least 2 years, preferably 3, years to be eligible for consideration for the National Professional Service Award.

NOMINATION FEE

You will receive a link to print your certificate online after submitting your nomination, and you can order your pin and medallion for a fee from the BGCA estore. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.

AWARD PRESENTATION

It is recommended that awards be presented at Area Council dinners, annual meetings or on special occasions planned for this purpose. The awards may be presented by members of the national staff, members of the National Awards Committee, National Area Council Committee members, members of the National Board of Governors or trustees, Area Council Chairpersons and other individuals so authorized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The total number of National Service Recognition Awards to be presented at any given function should be carefully reviewed by each Boys & Girls Club organization in order to maintain the dignity of each award.

The National Professional Service Award Medallion may be awarded posthumously up to one year after the death of the individual being recognized.
